We just got power back on at the State Library. We will remain open with basic services until 6 pm. We will also be here from 9-4 tomorrow and hope we maintain power. Library Development, Reference, Circulation, La. Services will all be here online so do not hesitate to call. I am hoping regular phones will be operational. If not, continue to try our cell.

This is Rebecca. Most state library staff do not have power in their homes. As of today, Friday the 5th, the State Library still has no power. We do not know when we will have power restored. However, my team and I are in the building preparing to open on Monday regardless if power is restored or not. We are setting up 15 laptops powered by a generator and will provide basic services to the public and to public libraries. LIbrary development staff, reference staff, circulation staff and other essential employees will be working out of the first floor. If you need any assistance please call the contact numbers you have for me, Diane and Dorothy and we will put you in contact with whoever can help you. Also, if you email us make sure you use the “state.lib.la.us” address because we can receive that. Our CRT mail is going to CRT and they are down. Our best thoughts and wishes are with you all and do not hesitate to call us if you need anything.

The State Library has established this blog to provide a mechanism for Louisiana libraries to alert the public about their status during an emergency situation and/or to provide information for their staffs. Any Louisiana library administrator may post information; anyone may comment.
